Sands of Thought

(61cm h x 92cm w – Oil painting on canvas)

By Calvin McCoard

In Sands of Thought, glowing spheres are used to symbolize human consciousness and sand to represent thought. The spheres emerging from the sand illustrate consciousness liberating itself from immersion in and identification with thought. The green and blue spheres, still buried in the sand, emit a light that aligns predominantly with their outer shell, or ego. In contrast, the violet spheres that have broken free from thought identification transcend this limitation and radiate a pure white light, symbolizing harmony with their true inner awareness. Sands of Thought reminds us of the importance of mastering our minds and thoughts through practices such as meditation to live more harmoniously with our true selves.
