Complementarity illustrates two opposing pairs of ways of perceiving reality. The lower blue circle represents a sense of separateness from reality, embodying the idea of an observer distinct from a reality composed of separate parts. In contrast, the upper section depicts reality as an indivisible whole, where there is no separation between observer and observed. On the left-hand side, the net flow of energy moves from reality to the experiencer, signifying a feeling of being at the mercy of an ‘outside world.’ On the right-hand side, the net flow of energy moves outward towards reality, indicating a strong creative flow of energy emanating from the individual’s unique perspective. To fully understand and appreciate either of these perspectives, one must experience its counterpart. The orange sphere at the center of the symbol represents the transcendent state of the Absolute, a realm beyond duality. The Absolute is a state of pure presence and awareness that transcends the dichotomies of the dual world. Complimentarity was used on the cover of the illustrated book Return to the Absolute
